Re:     Heading to an Arbitrated Settlement

Date:     Thursday November 13th 2014

On Tuesday the 11th of November 2014 the BUC Executive and Counsel met with the employer at the Ontario Labour Board offices in Toronto. A hearing for an application for First Contract Arbitration had been scheduled for the day.

With the assistance of the Board Vice-Chair an agreement was reached that all matters before the OLRB would be resolved and that a five year collective agreement expiring September the 30th 2018 will be entered into between the BUC and McMaster University. The final terms of the contract will be the subject of binding arbitration scheduled before Vice-Chair Ian Anderson on December 18th 2014.

What does this mean? The University has agreed to a five year contract with job security for all members of the Operations& Maintenance and Casual Cleaners bargaining unit employed by the University and represented by the Building Union of Canada.

Following the December 18th hearing we will provide all of the final contract details, including the wage rates, which Vice Chair Anderson will determine.

Please continue to stay united; we could not have achieved this result without your support.
