Tony Cordeiro stated “Our wall-to-wall status at the OLRB allows us to represent every trade in construction under one Collective Agreement. We are very excited for the opportunity these employees have given us to work and grow together with Urbacon. We are also very grateful to the employees for giving us a unanimous vote on our Collective Agreement.”
Stephen Bromell added, “The Collective Agreement we negotiated with Urbacon and which was supported by 100% of their employees includes the highest hourly wages for all Labourer classifications in Ontario as well as one of the most comprehensive Health Benefits Plans in the Province and a Defined Contribution Pension Plan.”

CY Rheault employs Labourers, Painters and apprentices and is one of the largest contractors in northern Ontario.
Cordeiro added, We’re excited about the productive partnership we will create with CY Rheault and their employees. If construction workers haven’t heard of us up there, they will be made aware of the BUC’s outstanding representation very shortly.”
LIUNA WITHDRAWS THEIR ABSURD SECTOR DISPUTE CHALLENGE
June 16, 2018 – Concord, ON – While employees of Innovative Civil Constructors Inc. and Eiffage Innovative Canada Inc. were performing construction work on a bridge at Union Station in Toronto, LIUNA decided to file a sector dispute challenge at the Ontario Labourer Relations Board. LIUNA tried to claim that the work being performed was not Heavy Civil but instead fell within the scope of the ICI sector.
“This was obviously a feeble attempt by LIUNA to try and take our bargaining rights away from the employees of ICCI.” says Tony Cordeiro, Business Representative of the BUC. Tony went on to say, “Once we filed our submissions to the OLRB, LIUNA came to their senses and withdrew their claim. They realized they weren’t going to win this because it was obvious to everyone else involved that this work was clearly Heavy Civil construction work.” “Our BUC Members made it clear to us that they wanted to continue working under our Collective Agreement with the BUC and not LIUNA.”
Ironically, if this work was being performed under LIUNA, the employees would have been doing the work at approximately $4.00/hour less in wages than what they are currently earning under the BUC Collective Agreement.
Tony also stated “LIUNA must be getting nervous about the inroads we are making in the Toronto construction market. Construction workers across Ontario are becoming aware of the BUC’s direct and transparent model of labour relations and representation, not to mention the highest wage rates in the industry for construction labourers.”
