October 26, 2018 – Concord, ON – On April 13, 2018 the BUC received a certificate from the OLRB giving them the bargaining rights for the employees working for ICCI in Board Area 3. One month after the BUC received these bargaining rights LIUNA filed an application to the OLRB for the purposes of challenging the BUC rights to represent these workers.
On October 24, 2018 the OLRB issued their decision dismissing LIUNA’s application which allows the BUC to carry on with their bargaining rights. In the OLRB decision the Vice Chair stated in paragraph 32 of his decision that LIUNA’s pleadings contained no facts. He went on to say in paragraph 36 of his decision that LIUNA’s broad statement masqueraded as a fact.
“Once again, LIUNA wastes more of their Members’ hard earned money on another one of their ridiculous challenges at the OLRB.” says Tony Cordeiro, Business Representative of the BUC. “I think the Vice Chair summed it up best when he stated in paragraph 30 of his decision that what LIUNA was attempting to do was equivalent to labour relations madness!”
