March 26th, 2021 – Concord, ON – The BUC successfully defended their legal right to represent all Construction Labourers working for ICCI/EIFFAGE, as the Ontario Labour Relations Board decided in the Building Union of Canada’s (BUC) favour with a 45-page decision that finally put to rest a series of claims going back to 2017, which LIUNA had put forward.
“This was yet another series of baseless claims by LIUNA which was shoved through the Ontario Labour Relations Board.” says Stephen Bromell, Vice President/Secretary Treasurer of the BUC. “This was another example of how LIUNA just wants to keep wasting their Members’ resources and money filing unjustified claims.”
The BUC is satisfied with the verdict, as they actually ratified a brand new Collective Agreement in the fall of 2020 with EIFFAGE/ICCI during the proceedings.
“The BUC is proud of the work we do for our Members and the very effective Partnerships we have formed.” says Tony Cordeiro, Field Representative of the BUC. “The BUC’s model is an obvious threat to LIUNA.”
The only issue remaining on this matter is the outstanding charges of bribery the BUC filed against two LIUNA Representatives during their failed raid campaign with the same company.
Since our official certification in 2012, the BUC has not filed a complaint against any employer or union that did not have merit. We have prided ourselves on respecting the legal process, but have pledged to our members and the owners of the great Canadian companies we deal with, that we will not waste time and money for frivolous things. There is too much to do to improve the industry, and we move forward after another successful defense of our BUC members.
